The aura system

Every reading has an element and a tone. Together they name your aura. Same cards, same aura — no AI deciding, just the deck counted the same way every time.

What an aura is

An aura is two things: an element and a tone. The element is what your cards are made of — fire, water, air, or earth. The tone is how they're sitting — still, radiant, or shadowed.

Four elements, three tones. That's twelve auras, and one of them is yours. A run of Cups might read Tidal. The Tower, drawn reversed and heavy, reads Ashen.

How it's calculated

  1. Element per card

Every card carries an element. Minor cards take their suit — Wands are fire, Cups water, Swords air, Pentacles earth. Major cards follow the Golden Dawn correspondences: a planet, a sign, or a pure element, each resolving to one of the four.

  2. The dominant element

Count the elements across your spread. The one most cards carry wins. Ties break toward the heavier cards — Majors outweigh courts, courts outweigh pips.

  3. The tone

More than half your cards reversed reads shadowed. Half or more from the Major Arcana reads radiant. Anything else is still.

  4. The signature card

The single heaviest card names the aura. Its element and your tone pick the word — the Tower, drawn heavy and burned down, becomes Ashen Tower.

No model writes this. It's arithmetic. The same cards always give the same aura.

Where it comes from

The element map isn't ours. It comes from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, set down in 1888, and the Rider-Waite-Smith deck that grew out of it — the deck Orakle's cards follow.

It's a documented, internally consistent system that tarot readers have used for over a century. Not empirical science. A tradition, applied the same way every time.
